Add Echo to Audio Online — Free Echo Effect Tool

Quick answer: To add echo to audio, load the file, choose a preset (slapback for vocals, tape for warmth, ping-pong for movement) or set the delay time and feedback by hand, preview it live, then export the result.

An echo effect tool adds delayed copies of your audio behind the original, so a flat recording gains depth and a tail that fades on its own. This one runs entirely in your browser: pick a preset or set delay, feedback and damping yourself, then export WAV or MP3.

The echo is built from a delay line with a damping filter inside its feedback loop, so each repeat is quieter and slightly darker than the last — the way a real room behaves. Feedback is capped below 1.0 so the repeats always decay to silence instead of running away.

How to Add Echo to Audio

  1. Load your audio: Drag in an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC — or pick a whole folder. Files are decoded locally; nothing is uploaded.
  2. Pick a preset or dial it in: Start with Slapback for a rap or rock vocal, Tape Echo for warmth, Ping-Pong for movement. Then adjust delay and feedback while it plays.
  3. Compare before you commit: The A/B control flips between the dry original and the effected version instantly, so you can hear exactly what the echo is adding.
  4. Export: Process and download WAV or MP3. Batch mode processes a folder one file at a time and downloads each result.

What this echo effect tool does

  • Six Tuned Echo Presets: Slapback, tape echo, ping-pong, karaoke, big canyon and doubler — real engineer settings, not random numbers.
  • Full Manual Control: Delay 20–2000 ms, feedback 0–90%, damping and rumble cut. Every value is audible live while the audio plays.
  • Ping-Pong Repeats: Repeats alternate left and right for movement. Great on vocals, guitars and synth stabs — needs headphones to appreciate.
  • No Upload, No Size Cap: Decoding, delay processing and encoding happen on your device. Confidential interviews never leave the machine.
  • Never Cuts the Tail: The exported length includes the echo tail, so the last repeat is never cut off mid-decay.
  • WAV + MP3 128–320 kbps: Export lossless WAV for editing, or an MP3 at 320 kbps straight to upload. No watermark.

The DSP Behind a Good Echo (and Why Feedback Is Capped at 90%)

An echo is a delay line with a feedback path: the delayed signal is fed back into the input, so each pass through the loop makes another, quieter repeat. The number of audible repeats follows ln(0.001) / ln(gain) — at 50% feedback you hear about ten, at 90% about sixty-five.

This tool clamps feedback below 1.0 by design. At exactly 1.0 the loop never loses energy, which is how software produces a runaway howl that can damage speakers and ears. The clamp is enforced in the engine, not just the slider, so no preset can defeat it.

Who Uses an Online Echo Effect?

  • Rap & Vocal Slapback: The 80 ms slapback used on countless lead vocals to make a dry take sound bigger without adding reverb.
  • Podcast Intros & Stingers: Add movement to a spoken intro or a segment sting — then stop before the repeats fight the interview audio.
  • Guitar & Synth Dubs: Ping-pong echoes on a solo, or a long canyon tail on a synth stab for cinematic builds.
  • Beatmakers Auditioning a Delay: Sketch a delay line in the browser, then print a dry and a wet version to import into the DAW.
  • Voice Memo Cleanup: Thicken a phone-recorded vocal take that sounds thin and upfront.
  • Video Editors: Reels, Shorts and trailers need an echo hit on a riser or a title reveal — process it here and drop it straight into the timeline.

Echo Effect — Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add echo to audio for free?

Open this page, drag in your audio file, pick an echo preset or set the delay and feedback yourself, preview it live, then click Export. It is completely free — no account, no watermark, and the file is never uploaded.

What is the difference between echo and reverb?

Echo is a distinct, separated repeat you can count. Reverb is thousands of overlapped reflections arriving so close together that you hear one continuous tail instead of individual repeats. Most vocals want a little of both; this page focuses on the delay/echo half.

What delay time should I use for slapback echo?

80 ms with about 10% feedback and 30% wet level. Below roughly 40 ms you stop hearing a repeat and start hearing comb filtering, which sounds hollow.

Is there a file size limit?

No upload limit at all, because nothing is uploaded. The practical ceiling is your device's memory: a 60-minute stereo file needs a lot of RAM, so very long recordings are best processed in sections with the Audio Trimmer.

Does echo work on vocals recorded on a phone?

Yes, and it helps more than most effects. A phone voice memo is dry and small; a 250 ms tape echo with 40% damping gives it depth without pretending it was recorded in a studio.

Can I add echo to only part of the audio?

This page applies the effect to the whole file, which is what almost every online echo tool does. For a section-only echo, trim the part you need with the Audio Trimmer, process it here, then join the pieces back together.

Why do my echoes sound harsh and metallic?

That is un-damped feedback: every repeat keeps the same bright top end, so the repeats stack up into a metallic ring. Raise the damping control — at 60–70% the repeats lose their high frequencies like a tape delay does.

Can I export as WAV instead of MP3?

Yes. WAV is lossless and best if the result is going into a video editor or another processing step. MP3 is available at 320, 192 and 128 kbps when you need a smaller file for upload.

Does this work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari, Chrome and most mobile browsers. Mobile browsers are stricter about memory, so keep files under about 30 minutes there for smooth processing.

Do you keep a copy of my audio?

No. There is no upload, no server-side copy and no account. The audio is decoded into browser memory, processed there, and released when you close the tab.

Can I add echo to a WhatsApp voice note on my phone?

Yes. Open this page in the phone browser, tap Choose file and pick the note from WhatsApp's Audio folder — nothing is uploaded, the phone decodes it locally. A dry voice note takes a 250 ms tape echo with 40% damping far better than it takes a big cathedral, and a note under a minute is processed in a couple of seconds.
